I have witnessed something a little bit interesting today... A Monkey got caught in a cage trap..
I was on the way home just now and I saw this monkey which had been lured by a bait in the form of an apple into the cage where it got trapped. Amazingly, after a little while, there were a bunch of monkeys that came into the scene. I had initially thought that they wanted to save him out. Unfortunately, I was wrong as i noticed them snatching his bait away from the poor lil thing and fighting among themselves on who should be having the entire apple. The monkey that was caught however, broke the apple down so that he could pass it out to the others while keeping some for himself. Sadly, the other monkeys did not even care about his well being and present situation.
After a little while, a seemingly elder monkey came and I think it was trying to rally the other monkeys to save the caught one first. However, as I do not understand monkey language, the group started to divide into 2 sides and fight among themselves. I believe the elder monkey was trying to tell the others to save that monkey that sacrificed himself. However, the other monkeys disagreed and were willing to leave the caught monkey in the lurch while they enjoyed the fruits of his labour. It was not long until they left him down there alone while they ran away quickly.
So what does this tell you? Don't you feel that this type of behavior is familiar?
Well, we humans aren't too different from our primate relatives.... It was also quite surprising to see that animals too showcase such heartless behavior... Or probably, it could only be a common trait among us primates...
A moment to reflect... It would be interesting to find someone nowadays that is so noble like the elder monkey in the above story...
